Abstract

1,141,168. Air supply for combustion; water heaters. JOH. VAILLANT K.G. 2 May, 1966 [13 May, 1965; 4 June, 1965], No. 19233/66. Headings F4A and F4W. In a water heater having a closed combustion chamber supplied with air by a blower 9, an exhaust gas outlet 11 sealed to the top of the combustion chamber and a generally air tight casing 3, the blower 9 draws air for combustion through a gap left between the casing 3 and the flue gas outlet 11 so that any gases leaking from the combustion chamber are returned by blower. The blower is driven by an external rotor motor 17 mounted in a recess in the lower part of the casing and having a shield 21 open at the top to allow circulation of cooling air within the recess. The casing 3 is formed in two halves, the front and rear edges of which engage and which have cut-outs in the top to form the air inlet surrounding the flue outlet.
