Abstract
862,063. Lighting fircs air supply for combustion; electrically heated igniters. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. July 30, 1959 [Sept. 12, 1958], No. 29276/58. Classes 39 (3) and 126. An electrically operated solid fuel igniter 1 comprises a first airflow tube 2, preferably of ceramic material, electric: heating means 3 disposed within the tube 2, a second air flow tube 9 surrounding the tube 2 and spaced therefrom, a blower 15 mounted at one end) of the tubes and driven by an electric motor (not shown) to force air through both tubes, and a nozzle 10 mounted at the other end of the tubes so that air can be directed into e.g. an open fire from tubes 2 and 9 through a passage 11a in the nozzle and openings 14 around the nozzle respectively. The tubes 2 and 9 are spaced apart by ridges 6 and a third tube 4 between the tubes 2 and 9 is preferably spaced from the former by ridges. 5 thereon. The element 3, as shown a single ceramic rod with a resistance winding varied along its length to produce greater heat at the end remote from the nozzle 10, is supported by ridges 7 on the inside of the tube 2 and by a bracket 8. The element 3 can be switched off at 18 whilst the blower motor continues to function and is cut out by known means if the blower motor fails. Specification 761,583 is referred to.
