Abstract
819,256. Pilot igniters for burners. ORR & SEMBOWER Inc. Aug. 29, 1956 [Nov. 9 1955], No. 26385/56. Classes 75(1) and 75(3) A pilot ignition unit comprises a hollow tube, an electrode holder supported adjaccent one end of the tube and supporting a second hollow tube inside and spaced from the first tube, an insulated electrode supported inside the second tube and having an uninsulated end adjacent the end of the second tube and means for supplying an air-gas fuel mixture under pressure through the space between the electrode and the second hollow tube. In the form shown, the unit comprises a porcelain rod 46 with a central wire 59 terminating in an electrode 48, which is clamped by the split ring 36 and screw 38 in the end of a tube 10 having side openings 14 and 16. The tube 10 has a bore 24 extending to the opening 16, a slightly larger bore 26 extending between the openings 14 and 16, a yet larger bore 30 extending to the opening 14 and a bore 32 of still larger diameter. The bore 26 receives a tube 40 carrying the second electrode 44 and the bore 32 receives a tube 60 having a collar 66 to abut against a boss 68 on the air plenum of the main boiler. Air from a blower 100, Fig. 2, driven by a motor 98 under the control of an electric timing system 92 passes through a junction 106 some supplying a venturi in a tube 94 which is also supplied with gas via the tube 93, and some passing by the pipe 84 to the opening 14. The gas-air mixture from the venturi passes to the opening 16. A plate 72 having holes 74, 76 is provided in the tube 60 to prevent extinction of the flame in the tube 60 when the main boiler is put out. Specification 791,225 is referred to.
