Abstract
539,495. Silencing gaseous currents. HOOVER, Ltd. March 11, 1940, No. 4572. Convention date, April 8, 1939. [Class 7 (ii)] A silencer for the exhaust from the fan of a suction cleaner comprises a portion 6 fitting into the exhaust passage and a second portion 7 extending into the dust bag 10 and connected to the first portion preferably by a flexible bellows 9, both portions being lined with sounddeadening material, such as sponge rubber, cellulose padding &c. The portion 6 may have an interior lining 6b of perforated metal, to protect the sound-deadening lining. The weight of the portion 7 may be supported by a spring- hinged link 12. The dust-bag is shown attached to the supporting-ring 8 of the portion 6, but it may be attached to the member 7, and in the latter case the bellows 9 is also lined with sound-deadening material.
