Abstract
545,531. Silencing gaseous currents. HOOVER, Ltd. Nov. 29, 1940, No. 17043. Convention date, Dec. 7, 1939. [Class 7 (ii)] A silencer for suction cleaners comprises a conduit 4 connected to the exhaust passage 1 and formed with perforations 8a, 9a leading to one or more surrounding resonating-chambers 8, 9. The conduit is formed with flanges 5, 6, 7 which are closed by a shell 3 removable for cleaning. The conduit may be lined with sponge rubber or other sound-deadening material, and is connected to the cleaner by a spring pivot 10 and bellows 13. The dust bag 15 is attached to the casing 3. The perforations 8a, 9a may be slots covered with metal gauze. A paper dust bag may be arranged within the bag 15 and connected to the conduit 4. The resonating-casing may extend backwards around the bellows 13. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also a form of cleaner wherein the resonating-casing is formed integral with the cleaner casing. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
