Abstract

543,731. Vacuum cleaner dust bags. HOOVER, Ltd. May 5, 1941, No. 5808. Convention date, May 16, 1940. [Class 8 (ii)] The mouth of a suction cleaner dust bag is provided with a valve which is mechanically opened when the bag is attached to the cleaner and closed when removed therefrom for cleaning. Fig. 3 shows the valve 25 at the inner end of a muffler 22 provided in the mouth of the bag. A torsion spring 27 tends to hold the valve open, and this tendency is opposed and overcome when the bag is removed by a cord 28 attaching the valve to a rod 31 forced outwards by a stronger spring ; the rod is pushed in on contact of a ring 18 of the bag with the outlet flange 19 of the cleaner exhaust passage. In a modification, the flange 19 carries a rigid finger which presses against a spring-pressed valve pivoted on the ring 18.
