Abstract

752,561. Suction cleaner filter bags. HOOVER, Ltd. Jan. 19, 1954 [Jan. 26, 1953], No. 1648/54. Class 8(2). A suction cleaner filter bag 21, Fig. 9, of porous paper comprises a main compartment capable of being closed at both ends 54, 55 and has an inlet passage 53 lying alongside and having a common wall with said compartment so as to be in open communication therewith at one end, whilst the other end 52 of passage 53 is connected to an adapter tube 36, Fig. 4. The bag 21 is formed by glueing an edge A, Fig. 7, of a blank 40 to a line 44 spaced from the opposite edge c<SP>1</SP> to form the main compartment with a projecting flap, and glueing the edge c<SP>1</SP> of the flap to the compartment wall to form the inlet passage 53. The bag has re-entrant pleats 41, 42 and passage 53 is connected to the main compartment by a T-shaped slit 72 in the common wall and which acts as an automatic valve. The slit may be replaced by a relatively large aperture. The end 52 of the passage 53 has a slot 66 engaged by a boss 65 located in a depression 56 of the adapter 36, and said end is clamped by a spring blade 60 and a pivoted keeper 61. The adapter 36 is connected by a bellows 33 to the cleaner exhaust outlet 14 (not shown) and which is arranged horizontally and transversely to the direction of movement of the cleaner. An appearance cover with sliding fastener fits round said opening 14 and pivots about it with the movement of the handle.
