Abstract

799,119. Air filters. KNECHT GES. Jan. 29, 1957 [Feb. 23, 1956], No. 3089/57. Class 8(2). A two-part filter casing 1, 4 connected by a duct 11 to the air intake of an I.C. engine and serving to house an inward flow dry filter cartridge 5 has in one end one or more air inlet openings 3, and in the opposite end and at the upstream side of the filter cartridge air outlet vents 12 through which pass periodic pulses of back pressure air from the engine after having traversed the filter cartridge 5 in the reverse direction and thereby effected cleaning thereof. The filter cartridge 5 is of paper having radially extending pleats with their opposite ends secured to plates 8 and 9. The air inlets 3 are formed by stamping out deflector vanes 2 but a single air inlet duct 13 may suffice. The size of the vents 12 is determined with reference to that of the inlets 3 and the operating condition of the engine.
