Abstract

893,085. Treating charges. GENERAL MOTORS Ltd. Sept 25, 1958 [Oct. 10, 1957], No. 31687/57. Class 7(2). An annular pleated filter paper or felt air filter 33, Fig. 3, gripped between casing shells 31, 32 has an annular wire screen flame arrester 40 downstream thereof. As shown, tabs 41 deflect entering air tangentially to throw heavy entrained particles into an annular receptacle 42. The member 40 may be welded to the shell 32. In modifications (1) there are no members 41, 42, (2) air passes from an entry 31, Fig. 2, through a filter 23 and a flat wire screen 30 to an exit pipe 26. The Provisional Specification refers to use of the members 41 without the member 42, and to the arrester occupying a passage between the filter outlet and a silencer or resonator chamber.
