Abstract

1,060,852. Air Filters. COOPERS MECHANICAL JOINTS Ltd. and C. M. STREETE. May 22, 1964 [June 5, 1963], No. 22442/63. Heading B1T. In an internal combustion engine combined air filter and silencer the latter is formed of the inlet duct in combination with an annular channel surrounding the filter unit, the duct and channel being connected through a buffer chamber which has the effect of providing an increased length of inlet ducting. De-tuning of the system may be increased by anti-resonance holes in the channel walls. As shown, air is sucked by the engine into the inlet duct 4, through the pleated filter 14, into the central space and out through an aperture in plate 7 into the engine. From the duct 4 the air passes into buffer chamber 23, round a wall 20 at each side of filter 14 and then enters the filter compartment at 24.
