Abstract

564,599. Dust separators. VOKES, C. G. March 29, 1943, No. 5061. [Class 23] A louvred arrangement for allowing air, or other gas, to pass into an engine cowling, vehicle, or the like, comprises a number of curved plates 5 acting as centrifugal dust separators. Air may be drawn in through a grid 4 by a fan and the plate 1 may be armoured when fitted to a tank or other military vehicle. A number of sets of separators 5 may extend along the length of the vehicle. Dust is deflected by scoops 9 into boxes 8 which have sloping bottoms. The boxes may be removable through the slot,2 through which the air passes. Further filters such as pleated fabric panels, a scrubber, or an oil bath, may be used for air passing through the slot 2. The boxes may be made self-emptying at a point of low air pressure.
