Abstract

513,087. Vacuum cleaners. HOOVER, Ltd. March 31, 1938, No. 9838. Convention date, April 8, 1937. [Class 8(i)] Between the floor nozzle and the fan chamber of a vacuum cleaner, a rigid conduit member is provided having a section 15 next the fan chamber and pivotally mounted about the fan axis to swing through a limited arc uncovering its open end to receive a hose for off-the-floor cleaning. A spring 19 coacts with studs on the member 15 to hold the member in either position. The rotary agitator 11 is driven by a belt 12 from a pulley 13 mounted on an extension of the motor shaft and driven from the shaft through a clutch. This clutch is opened when the section 15 is turned into position for hose attachment by a cam on the section acting through a transverse rod 32 acting on a lever 29.
