Abstract
611,191. Suction cleaners. HOOVER, Ltd. April 25, 1946, No. 12459. Convention date, April 26, 1945. (Classes 8 (i) and 8 (ii)] In a suction cleaner of the kind comprising an initial dirt separator chamber 16, Fig. 1, a suction-creating unit, e.g. a fan 22 and a final filter 64, the whole being enclosed in a casing 1, the filter 64 lies within a chamber 17 having a dirt discharge aperture 34 displaced from the filter, and a valve 43 whereby the aperture 34 can be connected to the initial dirt separator 16 so that air from the fan delivery ports 27 flows over the dirt-collecting surface of the filter 64 and is discharged by way of a port 31 to the initial separating chamber 16 without flowing through the filter wall. The aperture 34 comprises a conduit opening from a dirt pan 37 and passes through a bulkhead 13, and the filter 64 of fabric is formed as a bag with its open mouth clamped to a ring 57 and is further supported by rods 63, Fig. 5, to provide a greater filter area. The bag is vibrated during cleaning by means of the downward movement of a pedal-operated upwardly-urged bifurcated plunger 66, each arm of which carries a pivoted spring-held pawl 74 engaging the end 54 of one of a pair of links 53 pivoted to the bag ring 57 at 56 and which are connected together by a coil spring 59. The valve 43 is a pivoted vane maintained by a spring 46 in its normal position to connect the port 31 with the suction inlet 6, and moved to the filter cleaning position by a solenoid 47 on the closing of a switch 81 by the pedal 69. An exhaust 4 is adapted to receive a blowing hose.
