Abstract

639,901. Suction cleaners. HOOVER, Ltd. Jan. 16, 1948, No. 1401. Convention date, April 5, 1940. [Classes 8(i) and 8(ii)] A suction cleaner comprises an initial dirt separator 18 adapted to receive dirtladen air through a suction inlet 19 directly from the main suction nozzle, a suction creating unit, e.g. a fan 24, 25, arranged to draw air from the separator 18 and deliver it through a final filter 37 and means, e.g. a movable nozzle 48 for removing dirt from the filter 37 and returning it to the initial separator 18 by means'of a cleaning air stream produced through the initial separator by the fan 24, 25. The filter cleaning nozzle 48 extends around the periphery of the filter 37 and is moved along the length thereof during the cleaning operation by manual displacement of a cup 51 to which is attached the free end of the main suction or hose 45.
