Abstract
567,929. Vacuum cleaners. HOOVER, Ltd. Sept. 3, 1943, No. 14399. Convention date, Sept. 11, 1942. [Class 8 (i)] A cleaner propelled by a handle for floor cleaning is provided with a removable connection 57 for an extension hose and dusting tool and with independent means for raising the nozzle from the floor, this means in one position actuating a valve in the conduit between the floor nozzle and the fan chamber. As shown, this passage has a partition 55 forming a housing for the belt driving the agitator, and the converter attachment on insertion closes one branch of the conduit. The other branch can be closed by a valve 52 engaged by a pin on a transverse rod 36 manually movable and having slots to engage the ends 27 of brackets supporting the rear wheels-; these slots are arranged to provide alternate nozzle heights when cleaning floors and a third nozzle height when the pin engages the valve to close it. In a modification, Fig. 8, a cranked rod is used to pass over a bracket end and engage a valve 76 passing round the fan shaft 9 and coacting with the wall 55.
