Abstract

647,956. Suction cleaners. HOOVER, Ltd. Aug. 7, 1947, No. 21543. Convention date, Aug. 9, 1946. [Classes 8(i) and 8(ii)] A suction cleaner comprises a main dirt separator 19 for removing dirt from the dirtladen air stream, a conduit 21 through which the air stream flows to this separator, a preliminary dirt receiving chamber 83 communicating with the said conduit and a preliminary dirt deflector 86 in the conduit 21 for deflecting into the dirt receiving chamber 83 some of the dirt passing through the conduit. The main separator is of the vortical whirl type and is located at the inlet of fans 33, 33 which discharge through a secondary separator comprising a filter bag 38 in chamber 37. The bag 38 is cleaned by a suction nozzle 60 rotated about the cleaner axis by the fan motor 64 and which discharges into the main separator 19. A dirt receiving chamber 80 in the separator 19 together with the chamber 83 are formed in an end cap 14 which is removable from the cleaner casing for emptying.
