Abstract

1,032,229. Suction cleaners. SUNBEAM CORPORATION. March 15, 1965 [June 10, 1964], No. 10870/65. Heading A4F. An upright suction cleaner comprises a main housing member 10 of moulded plastics material to the upper end of which the handle 44 (Fig. 1, not shown) is connected, and which is formed integrally with a suction nozzle 11, a fan chamber 12, and a motor chamber 15, the motor 17 being mounted on a plate 16 and inserted into the chamber 15 through a rear opening in the latter, and dust collecting and exhaust chamber 31, 13 being formed between the member 10 and front and rear cover plates 39, 19, respectively. The suction nozzle 11 contains a rotary brush 27 driven by a belt 28 from the motor shaft 25. Dust laden air drawn into the nozzle 11 by the fan 26 is exhausted upwardly through the passage 13, and downwardly through a paper dust bag 34 in the chamber 31, the air leaving the bag 34 being passed through a filter 36 into the motor chamber 15 to cool the motor 17 before being discharged through vents 30.
