1351940 Suction cleaners BRITISH DOMESTIC APPLIANCES Ltd 28 May 1971 [31 July 1970] 37164/70 Heading A4F [Also in Division B1] In a suction cleaner of the upright type there is provided a return path for air from a dust collector into a wheeled cleaner body, an electric motor driven fan is located in said return path, and the main air-flow to the dust collector has in its wall an openable air-tight door or cover for permitting insertion of a connector of an extension hose for off-the-floor cleaning. Air is drawn by a suction fan through the suction nozzle 12, housing 11, tubes 39, 31, dust bag 35, and tube 41, through the motor 17 driving the suction fan 18, 18a to cool the motor and discharges through a metal screen 43 and filter 43a to atmosphere. The paper dust bag 35 is enclosed in a housing 25 having a removable front cover 20 Fig. 1, (not shown). The cardboard base of the bag 35 is secured to the air tube 33, which is detachable from the tube 31 so that the assembly of the tube 33 and bag 35 is removable from the housing 25 to permit emptying of the bag 35 after removal of the tube 33 therefrom. A device for indicating when the dust bag is full comprises a tube 51 opening into the dust bag housing 25 and connected to a transparent tube 35 containing a piston 54. As the dust bag fills the increased suction in the housing 25 draws the piston 54 against the action of a spring 55, the extent of filling of the bag being indicated by the position of the piston 54 in relation to a scale on the tube 35.
