Abstract

673,613. Vacuum cleaners. HOOVER, Ltd. Sept. 20, 1950 [Sept. 21, 1949], No. 23059/50. Class 8 (i) In a vacuum cleaner fitted with floor wheels and an agitator rotated by the belt 13 the agitator may be replaced by a rotary brush 30 driven by the belt 13. The brush 30 is carried by supports 27 in a frame 21 that also carries shrouds 32, 33 pivoted on pin 31 and pressed apart by springs 36 ; the shroud 33 has a slot 42 to permit the passage of the belt 13. The frame 21 has studs 24, 26 which fit slots in the ends of the nozzle 12, the stud 26 having a flat so that the assembly can be inserted into the nozzle the correct way that the belt 13 passes through the slot 42. The edges of the shrouds are bent outwardly at 40, 41 to engage the front and rear edges of the nozzle so that when in place the shrouds substantially close the nozzle mouth from the fan inlet to reduce the load on the motor during polishing.
