Abstract

667,661. Suction cleaners. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. June 21, 1950 [July 7, 1949], No. 15501/50. Class 8 (i) A detachable belt remover for a suction cleaner having a floor nozzle 1, 2, 3, Fig. 1, with a front opening for the insertion of an offthe-floor cleaning hose 15, Fig. 5, and towards which extends a motor shaft 8 driving a brush having an axis 10 transverse to the shaft 8 comprises a plate 16 secured adjacent the nozzle opening e.g., by slots 19 engaging pins 17 and carrying an arm 22 pivoted at a post 21 and carrying an axially and rotatably displaceable member 26 having a hollow-end 28 which on engagement with the shaft 8 results in the belt riding on to the member 28 whereupon the arm 22 is swung laterally to permit the hose 15 to be inserted in the opening. In a modification the plate 16 is replaced by a detachable bracket carrying the pivoted arm 22 and member 26 and having hooks by which it is clamped to the nozzle opening when it is desired to remove the belt prior to the insertion of the hose.
