449,903. Centrifugal pumps. ELECTROLUX, Ltd., Luton, Bedfordshire.-(Assignees of Inventia Patent-Verwertungs-Ges. ; 10, Herrenacker, Schaffhausen, Switzerland) Nov. 30, 1934, No. 34442. Convention date, Dec. 21, 1933. [Class 110 (i)] [See also Group XXVIII] For silencing, the fan of a vacuum cleaner discharges through passages 20, 25, 28, each of constant cross-sectional area enlarged abruptly at the ends, the area being smaller than or at most four times as large as that of a circle of diameter equal to the length of the passage. The passage 20 is formed between the flange 18 of an impervious screen 17 behind the fan, and an inner cap 19 forming part of the fan unit. Vanes 21 guide the air through the motor enclosed in a housing 16, whence it passes into the interior of a cap 23 and through slots 24 into the annular space around the cap, thence through a filter 30 and into the passage 28 provided with guide vanes. The passage 28 is formed partly by a plate 26 or by the filter 30, if the plate is omitted, or by the end of the cap 23. The passages may be lined with soundabsorbing material. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that the passages may be spiral. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
