Abstract
600,641. Air cleaners. HOUDAILLEHERSHEY CORPORATION. Oct. 31, 1945, No. 28920. Convention date, Dec. 31, 1943. [Class 8 (ii)] In an air cleaner comprising a casing 10, 42 in which a filter container 24 is mounted above a sump 50 so as to define an air inlet passage 48, a projection 49 on the container extends into the passage and serves together with a deflector 46 at the inlet end of the passage to prevent inflowing air from following a straight path to the container. The deflector 46 comprises a lip which extends inwardly from the casing wall 45 as far as a bulge forming the projection 49 extends outwardly. Dirt-laden air is further deflected from the upper surface of a baffle 35 into the filter comprising curled cattle-tail hair, vegetable fibre or the like maintained in the container by sheets of hardware cloth 32, 26. A hollow bolt 8 by which the cleaner is secured to a gear box serves to vent the latter.
