Abstract
603,846. Air cleaners. HONDAILLEHERSHEY CORPORATION. Oct. 31, 1945, No. 28921. Convention date, Dec. 13, 1943. [Class 8 (ii)] In an air cleaner comprising a casing 9, 10 containing a filter 49 spaced from the casing wall to provide an air passage 41 and located between a cleaner inlet 25, near the casing top and outlet 11, a baffle 27 is interposed between the inlet 25 and the passage 41 to direct air away from the passage 41, and an air directing element 37, 38 is located between the baffle 27 and the filter 49 to direct air leaving the latter to the outlet 11. The air directing element comprises the filter holder cover, the outer surface of which is concave at 37 and convex at 38 and so guides incoming air into the passage 41. Similarly the inner surface of the cover is shaped to guide air from the filter to the outlet 11. A downwardly turned flange 29 of the baffle serves to retain oil from a sump 50 in the passage 41, should the cleaner be inverted. The filter mass of curled cattletail hair, cactus fibre or aluminium shavings, is retained by hardwoven cloths 47, 48.
