Abstract

659,345. Air cleaners. HOUDAILLEHERSHEY CORPORATION. April 27, 1949, No. 11215. Convention date, June 23, 1948. [Class 8(ii)] In an air cleaner comprising lower and upper casing sections 1, 2 clamped together, the lower casing has a liquid sump 8 and a central outlet 9 about which a gasket 11 is seated, whilst the upper casing 2 supports a filter holding shell 16 having a central outlet conduit 21 and a cover 15 lined with a silencing pad 25 which is retained by means, e.g. an apertured disc 26 having depending lugs, one 34 of which is shown bearing on the outlet conduit 21 to force the latter by direct bearing contact into sealing engagement with the gasket 11. Extensions 36 on the lugs press on a screen 19 which holds wavy wire filter material in the shell 16. The casing section 2 has a sound attenuating chamber 12 leading to the outlet 9 through an annulus 13.
