494,633. Stuffing - box substitutes. BACH, E., and KLEIN, A. Dec. 9, 1937, No. 34056. Convention date, Dec. 9, 1936. [Class 122 (v)] A continuous packing-ring 2 surrounding a shaft is supported from a casing 1 by leaf springs &c. 6 so arranged that frictional drag between the shaft and packing-ring deflects the springs &c. and moves the ring axially away from the shaft bearing surface 5. A grease chamber 8 may be formed in the sealing surface of ring 2 or a lip of resilient material may be mounted thereon. A resilient sealing ring 7 or 7a is interposed between the packing- ring 2 and casing 1.
