[Class 122 (v)] A packing-ring 4 of resilient material e.g. synthetic rubber, is pressed in the shaft by bimetallic members 7 whereby the packing pressure is varied with the temperature of the lubricant or sealed medium. The pressure may be arranged to increase or decrease with rise of temperature. A number of bimetal members are arranged around the packing and may be embedded therein or secured to a ring 11 clamped with the packing in a casing 3.
