Abstract

344,640. Stuffing-boxes, &c. JORGENSEN, O. E., Lansdowne House, Anlaby Road, Hull. Feb. 20, 1930, No. 5737. [Class 122 (v).] The joint between a packing ring 5, Fig. 1, and the gland 2 is covered by a rubber or other elastic ring 8, having a beaded edge engaging an undercut groove 4 in the gland. The ring 5 may be an undivided ring of ebonite or other material, or may be a split or segmental ring. A split or segmental ring may be placed above the ring 5 and may be fitted with a peripheral groove, engaged by a beaded edge on the band 8. In a further modification two pairs of rings, 24, 25 and 26, 27, Fig. 5, are fitted into carrier rings 31, 32 of L-section, the elastic bands 35, 36 engaging grooves in the carrier rings; split scraper rings 37, 38, fitted with flat, contractile springs 39, 40, are provided. The rings 24 .. 27 may be split ebonite rings embraced by spring rings vulcanized in position.
