Abstract

780,555. Air filters. FILTERWERK MANN & HUMMEL GES. Oct. 24, 1955 [Oct. 30, 1954], No. 30269/55. Class 8(2). In an air filter of the oilbath type comprising a central air inlet tube 5 discharging into an oil sump 12 and surrounded by an annular filter cartridge 4 located in a cylindrical casing 1 having a side outlet 14 for filtered air above the cartridge 4, a preliminary air filter cartridge 17 of disc form and having conical upper and lower faces 19, 25 is located in a casing 18 above the casing 1 and has a top dirt-laden air inlet and a bottom air outlet connected to the upper end of the tube 5 whereby oil blown up the tube 5 by a reverse flow of air is arrested by the preliminary filter cartridge 17. Below the lower end of the tube 5 is a baffle having an imperforate central portion 10 and peripheral apertures 11. The disc filter 17 is protected by a hood 24 which together with the casing 18 provides an annular dirt-laden air inlet.
