Abstract

773,490. Filters for volatile liquids. FRAM CORPORATION. Dec. 20, 1955 [Oct. 7, 1955], No. 36458/55. Class 46. A filter for volatile liquids comprises a container 11 having an inlet 18, an outlet 17 leading from a tube 16 dipping into the container, a filter element consisting of a porous, seamless paper cup 22 having an unpleated bottom 25 and an upwardly extending pleated side, wall 26 through which liquid to be filtered passes inwardly, and a closure cap 27 sealed on to the top of the cup and provided with a central hole 29 adapted to fit snugly about the tube 16 through which the filtrate is discharged. The upper part of the cup extends well above the normal level of the liquid to permit vapour to escape through the unwetted upper part of the cup. The cup is formed from a paper disc 23, Fig. 4, having radial score lines 24 extending from an unscored centre part to its circumference, the disc being folded into pleats along the score lines. A spring table 33 supports the cup in use.
