Abstract
573,871. Air filters. LEYLAND MOTORS, Ltd. and TATTERSALL, N. Dec. 18, 1942, No. 18006. [Class 8(ii)] An air filter comprises an oil bath on which the air is directed through the space between baffles 12, 14, the passage between them being gradually constricted near the oil surface, e.g., by a flared skirt 15; dust is deposited on the oil, and the partly cleaned air rises and passes through a vertical annular labyrinth 13 which collects entrained dusty. oil and allows it to be drained back into the oil bath, any oil which is carried through the labyrinth being removed by a perforated single or multiple screen 25, and the air passing to the lateral outlet 4. A baffle 28 screens the upflowing air from the oil draining down. An internal dome 27 gives an even airflow. The lateral air inlet 3 is provided with a hinged flap 6 which can close the mouth of inlet 3 and allow 'inlet of air through openings in the top of the inlet. Flanges 5, 10 provide an attachment to a bulkhead, from either side of which the air can thus be drawn.
