Abstract

811,186. Separation of dust from gases. ELLIOTS (NEWARK) Ltd. and McGLOON, W. F. Aug. 13, 1957 [Oct. 4, 1956], No. 30299/56. Class 8(2). [Also in Group XII] Apparatus for separating dust from a gas stream comprises a casing C, Fig. 1 having an oil sump 2 into which dips a rotatably mounted ring of inwardly directed substantially tangentially arranged dust-collecting blades 11 driven by impact thereon of dust-laden gas entering a casing inlet 13 and cleaned by passage through the oil sump 2; clean gas leaving the casing through an aperture 14. The blades 11 which may be flat or curved extend between spaced discs 9 as shown in Fig. 3 connected by an axle 10 journalled in the sides of the casing, and the incoming gas is directed thereon by a baffle 15. The sump 2 is detachable. In a modification suitable for inclusion in a town gas main, the sump is integral with the casing and means is provided for draining off dirt-laden oil and supplying fresh oil from a canister located above the casing.
