[Also in Group XXVIII] An oil-bath air cleaner for a three-cylinder internal-combustion engine, comprises upper and lower casings 1, 2 in which are housed filter elements 6 and 9, an annular outlet chamber 11 formed by the upper portion of the casing 1 having extending thereinto an outlet pipe 10 the inner end of which lies in a vertical plane which is at an angle, preferably 60 degrees, to a vertical plane in which lies the axis of the outlet pipe, and the outer wall of the outlet chamber 11 having thereon a flat 12 which lies symmetrically to either side of a vertical plane which is angularly spaced, preferably by 90 degrees, from the vertical plane in which lies the axis of the outlet pipe, the flat 12 extending upwardly and inwardly at an acute angle, preferably 15 degrees, to the vertical. The casings 1, 2 are detachably interconnected by a clamp ring 3 and a bolt 4, the lower casing 2 forming an oil reservoir 5. The filter elements 6 and 9 are each preferably in the form of an annular mass of woven wire mesh. Air enters the filter through an air inlet pipe 7 in which is secured a vane 16 for imparting a whirling motion to the air for removal of the heavier particles of dirt, drops of oil being entrained in the air during its passage over the oil in the reservoir to the filter elements. The upper end of the flat 12 preferably continues at an angle of 40 degrees to the vertical, Fig. 3 (not shown). An annular plate 14 covers the filter element 9, the plate having three arcuate slots therein, Fig. 4 (not shown), forming a substantially annular opening for the passage of filtered air from the filter element 9 into the outlet chamber 11, the width of the slots being substantially one-third that of the width of the annular chamber 11 and the slots being equi-spaced from the walls of that chamber.
