Abstract

458,629. Filtering gases. YUILLE, J., 197, Bath Street, Glasgow. Jan. 29, 1936, Nos. 2614 and 7177. [Class 8 (ii)] [See also Group XII] Gases are treated by passage through a series of spaced filters of metal wool, the first screen to be traversed being of coarser material than the subsequent screens. The screens may be stationary, or revolve about a common axis, and may be sprayed with washing or solvent liquid. Fig. 5 shows apparatus wherein air enters by a duct 13 and impinges on a baffle 12, coarse dust falling into the hopper 8. It then rises through a lower coarse metal wool mattress 1 and an upper mattress 11 of finer material to the outlet. The mattresses are oscillated by cams 16 and depressed by blade and coil springs 19, 20. Between the two mattresses, revolving baffles 21, 22, 23 co-operating with stationary scrapers deflect falling dust outwards into peripheral shoots leading into the hopper 8.
