Abstract

235,301. Hutchins, T. W. S., and Swinburne, J. March 11, 1924. Dust &c., separating from gases.-Solid or liquid particles are separated from air or gas by a cylinder of metal plate having many small holes, rotated at a high speed in the path of the gas, which passes in through the perforated wall. The cylinder may be combined with a suction fan, and means may be provided to render the passage of air uniform over the surface of the cylinder. As shown, dust-laden gas passes at an inlet a into a chamber containing a rotating-perforated cylinder c with a closed end. Within the cylinder a velocity-equalizing drum m is provided formed with holes increasing in number or size towards the suction fan e which sends the purified gas to an outlet h. The drum and the fan rotate together, the fan being so designed and proportioned that a slight pressure exists around the fan and prevents gas from passing direct from the inlet a to the fan. The drum m may be formed with slits of different widths in place of perforations.
