Abstract
327,622. Kearsley, A. R. V. May 21, 1929. Density separators.- Combustion gases entering through an opening 4 are whirled by a fan 1 on a shaft 2 and solid particles contained in the gases are flung outwards through ducts 7 and deflected by baffle plates 9 into wedgeshaped grooves 6. Jets of air, water or steam flowing through nozzles 8 impinge on the baffle plates 9. Solid matter collects in a hopper 13 which, through a port 14, communicates with the inlet 4 for pressure equalisation purposes. Clean gases pass out through a chimney 5. Openings 10 lead to annular chamber 11 which communicate with the hopper 13. Gas may pass through the apparatus when the fan is stationary. The shapes of the baffles and deflectors may vary and the ducts be adjustable.
