Abstract

236,452. Spangenberg, J. P. Dec. 1, 1924. Density separators. - Foreign particles are separated from a fluid in a constricted curved passage 4, attached to another passage 6 of increasing cross-sectional area, and having openings 8 in its outer wall leading to closed collecting receptacles 9. The apparatus is shown in Fig. 1 connected across the smoke flue between the boiler 1 and the chimney 3. Regulating devices 7 are provided and the inlet pipe 5 may be of diminshing cross-sectional area, and the position of the apparatus may be varied. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the air or smoke passes axially into the fan and is delivered bv the vanes 20 into the constricted passage 21, which is carried round the vane wheels and connected by a diverging passage 22 to the outlet. Openings in the passage 21 lead to the dust collectors 24. The openings may be provided with valves 27, 28, Fig. 4, so that air enters the dust receptacle with the dust through the valve 25 and air leaves the receptacle by the valves 26.
