Abstract
512,886. Centrifugal separators. MARSTON, C. C. Feb. 18, 1938, No. 5128. [Class 23] Plant for separating dust from gases consists of two or more cyclone separator units A B, successive units having their separating chambers 1 connected by a transfer passage 7 which includes means for controlling the flow of dust laden gas. Each unit has a conical dust collector 2 and a clean gas outlet pipe 3 with an adjustable valve 4. The dust laden gas enters the tangential inlet 6 from the pipe 5 which may be provided with baffles for preliminarily treating the dust laden gas. The passage 7 connects the outlet 8 of one chamber to the inlet 9 of the next, and the vertical edges of these openings may be lipped to provide a smooth passage. The direction of rotation of the gas stream in the unit B is reversed with regard to that in unit A. The height of the passage may be equal to the depth of the separating chamber 1, and the passage may be large circumferentially subtending an angle of 30 degrees. The passage has a transverse plate 10 which slides in guides 1] packed to prevent leakage, and the plate is apertured so that the effective area of the passage may be varied. Instead of this plate, arcuate shutters may be arranged to slide on the exterior or interior surface of the chamber wall. The clean gas outlet 3 is provided with an adjustable end sleeve 12.
