Abstract

517,206. Centrifugal gas cleaners. BOWDEN, A. T. Aug. 26, 1938, No. 25081. [Class 23] Apparatus for separ- -ating solid particles from gases has a central inlet 3 from which the incoming gas passes to the separating chamber 1 by a number of curved ducts 4 ... 8 which cause the gas to pass outwards and downwards. The ducts are bounded by curved ribs 9... 13 on the truncated conical part 14 or on the cover 2, and the conical part 14 is secured-to the cover by a bolt 15. The crosssectional area of the ducts decreases from the inlets to the outlets to increase the velocity of the flowing gas. The upper end of the clean gas outlet pipe 16 terminates in a non-turbulent zone beneath the conical part 14. The pipe 16 passes through a conical baffle plate 19 leaving a space 20 through which the separated solid particles drop to a discharge opening normally closed by a plug 18. In a modification the pipe 16 passes vertically through the apex of the coned base 17 of the separator and a door is provided for the removal of the solids.
