Abstract
487,672. Washing gases. NYBORG, T. G., and MINING ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Nov. 21, 1936, Nos. 31948/36, 4375/37, and 19781/37. [Class 55 (ii)] In the removal of dust from air and other gases by washing, the air is drawn through a tangential inlet 4 and passes round an annular chamber 5, curls in over the rim of a spraying tube 1, and forms a vortex as it descends towards a depositing chamber 8. The spray from a nozzle 7, axially directed, is so controlled that the wetted dust forms a sludge on the wall of the tube, with its surface defining a vena contracta as indicated in dotted lines thereafter, the sludge breaks off and falls into the chamber 8. The gas stream passes up a tube 11, through an exhaust fan 15 into a part 19 of the casing 9, and escapes through an outlet 20. The apparatus is formed of metal and connected to earth so that the total electrostatic charge of the dust cloud is reduced by the particles impinging on the walls.
