990,103. Electrostatic precipitation; spraying apparatus. SVENSKA FLAKTFABRIKEN A.B: June 28, 1963 [July 3, 1962], No. 25905/63. Headings B2F and B2J. A dust separating apparatus for gases at high pressures and temperatures, such as those which emerge from blast furnaces, comprises a wet pre-cleaner 3 combined with a wet electrostatic precipitator 16, the pre-cleaner being built-in in a front chamber 1a formed by an extension of the cylindrical enclosure 1 of the precipitator. The pre-cleaner shown is of the kind described in Specification 769,821. Gas from. a blast furnace enters the front chamber 1a through an inlet 2 and is cooled and pre-separated as it is expanded and then contracted while being sprayed by pipes 5 with a film of. water 4 which atomizes at the edge 7. The pre-cleaned and pre-wetted gas is distributed by a grill 8 on to the electrostatic precipitator which is formed of sections 9, 10, 11 and equipped with emission electrodes 12 and collecting electrodes 13. Rows of nozzles 15 work continuously to spray water parallel with the gas flow while rows of nozzles 14 intermittently spray water at a greater intensity across the precipitator. The cleaned gas issuing from the outlet 18 can be utilized for boilers or other purposes. Outlets 19, 20 discharge the dust and mud.
