Abstract

1,151,026. Electrostatic precipitators. KOPPERS CO. Inc. 10 Aug., 1967 [6 Sept., 1966], No. 36839/67. Heading B2J. An electrostatic precipitator comprises a two-part collector electrode 13, Fig. 1, surrounding a discharge electrode 11 and means for selectively rendering operative one or other part of the collector electrode. The gas/ particle mixture is divided into two streams C,B by ducts 15, 17, the dirty stream C passing e.g. to a cyclone. In operation dust forms first on a cylinder part 18 of the electrode 13, and this is then moved forward, Fig. 2, so that the collected dust is scoured off by the gas stream. Meanwhile dust forms on the other cylinder part 19, which is similarly scoured. Movement is effected as by motors 21, 23 linked to the cylinder by links 25, 27. Scouring may be assisted by mechanical rapping, particularly where the gas velocity is low, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown).
