Abstract

1376804 Electrostatic precipitation NIPPON KOGEI KOGYO CO Ltd 3 Nov 1972 [5 Nov 1971 6 Nov 1971] 50857/72 Heading B2J A building 10 in which metal is cast in a path down a runner 7 is provided with a ventilating chamber 14 housing charging electrodes 21 and collecting electrodes 22 between which an electrostatic field is produced to remove dust particles from the ironoxide laden fumes passing through the chamber 14 by natural convection. Additional gas, e.g. air, can be projected upwardly from openings 60, 60' spaced around parts of the path to form curtains 64, 64' enclosing the dust laden fumes 68. The electrodes 21 are constituted by a fine wire mounted on insulators which may be cleaned of deposited dust by a gas passing through associated tubes (Fig. 4, not shown). The wire may be movably supported on two reels each of which can be rotated to wind the wire from one reel to the other. The collecting electrodes 22 may be of plate, net, or clothlike form, or may be of the liquid-film type (Fig. 6, not shown).
