1391885 Electrostatic separators S T MILJOTEKNIK AB 9 Aug 1973 [10 Aug 1972 29 Jan 1973] 37862/73 Heading B2J An electrostatic filter comprises a plurality of discharge electrodes 1, e.g. of wire or grid form, mounted between two circular holders 5, 6; a plurality of collecting electrodes 2, e.g. of wire, grid or vane form, arranged concentrically around the electrodes 1 and mounted by way of holders 10, 11, on a shaft 13 rotatable in bearings 12; an inlet 4 for guiding gas to be cleaned into the space 8 between the electrodes 1, 2; apertures in the holder 11 constituting the outlet from the filter; a gas-tight casing 3 surrounding the electrodes 2; and flushing means 17 for cleaning the inner wall of the casing 3. In use, the electrodes 2 are rotated rapidly around the electrodes 1 whereby collected particles are flung by centrifugal action into the space defined by the casing 3. Sprayers may be provided to produce a curtain of liquid in the space 8 through which, with the aid of the collecting electrodes, the gas may be conducted in a helical path. The discharge electrodes may be coated with a dielectric material so that the gas is ionised without any corona discharge. In another modification, the gas can be introduced into the gap 8 from the space inside the discharge electrodes which may also be rotated.
