Abstract

1378029 Electrostatic precipitators COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 18 Dec 1972 [31 Dec 1971] 58320/72 Heading B2J [Also in Division G1] An electrostatic precipitator comprises a chamber 2 having a first inlet duct for polluted gas, a second inlet duct for "clean" gas and an outlet duct 8 provided with a suction fan 17. Disposed within the chamber 2 are a discharge electrode in the form of a conductive wire 12 and a plate electrode 10, which may be constituted by the wall of the chamber, together with deflectors 18, 18' for the gas flow. In use, a direct potential V1 is applied between the electrodes 10, 12, to produce a corona discharge, whereby particles in the polluted gas passing into the chamber 2 from the inlet duct 4 are ionised and attracted to the electrode 10 for collection. The "clean" gas introduced through the inlet duct 6 compensates for the electric wind produced by the corona discharge and prevents the deposition of particles on the walls of the chamber 2. A further outlet duct 20 with an adjustable closure member 22 may be provided. The plate 10 may be provided with a cleaning system and may be associated with a measuring apparatus including, for example, a piezo-electric strip, an electrometer or a moving film whereby. a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the impurities may be performed.
