Abstract

1396063 Electrostatic precipitators ISHIKAWAJIMA-HARIMA JUKOGYO KK 6 July 1973 [20 Sept 1972 14 Oct 1972 19 Dec 1972 24 Feb 1973] 32377/73 Heading B2J A two-stage electrostatic precipitator comprises a housing 1 having an inlet 2, flow guides 6 and an outlet 3; an ionising section A including discharge electrodes 9 associated with earthed rod-shaped electrodes 10 the electrodes 9 being of angled configuration and being furnished with discharge points (7) Figs 3 and 4 (not shown); and a collection section B including earthed collector electrodes 12 formed with pockets 14 which face the gaps between high-voltage electrodes 11 upstream of the electrodes 12. The arrangement is such that dust particles in the gas stream to be cleaned are ionised in the section A and are then driven into the pockets 14 under the forces resulting from the presence of the electric field between electrodes 11 and 12. The electrodes 11 may be arcuate in section and the pockets 14 may be of various shapes (Figs 5 to 7, not shown). The ionising section may include a second set of discharge electrodes associated with the electrodes 10 which in this instance may be liquid-cooled (Fig 8, not shown), and a further electrode may be located at the entrance 15 to each of the pockets 14 (Fig 9 not shown), with an a.c. supply source connected between electrodes 11 and 12 (Fig 10, not shown).
