Abstract

1369833 Electron spectrometers E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 17 Dec 1971 [18 Dec 1970] 58694/71 Heading H1D Apparatus for the energy analysis of charged particles, e.g. electrons, comprises a tubular metal flow director 34 which the particles enter, a first electrostatic filter consisting of rings 40 to 46 which maintain a decelerating field so as to prevent the passage of particles below a selected energy level and a second electrostatic filter which radially ejects particles having energies within a selected range into a shroud 60 where they are counted by electron multipliers 64. A filter 26 at the entrance of the apparatus allows only those particles below a preset energy to enter the apparatus. Those particles which are required pass through window 19a, are reflected by screen 20 and enter the apparatus through window 19b. A concentrating lens 35 may be provided.
