Abstract

1348614 Electrostatic precipitators ENVIROTECH CORP 8 June 1972 [8 June 1971] 26788/72 Heading B2J An electrostatic precipitator comprises a flow chamber 12 housing emitting electrodes 16 and collecting electrodes 18; hoppers 24 positioned below openings 23 in the chamber to collect the precipitated dust; an earthed electrode grid 28 adjacent the openings 23; and corona discharge points 26 located above and cooperating with the grid 28. In operation, a corona discharge and an electric wind are produced in a downward direction between the points 26 and the grid 28; thus, dust particles which fall below the electrodes 18 will be conveyed both by gravity and by the electric wind into the hoppers 24, whilst dust already in the hoppers will be prevented from becoming reentrained in the gas flow through the chamber 12. The corona discharge points may be constituted by wires (32) attached to weights (30) hanging on the emitting electrodes 16 (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown).
