561,987. Filters. SIMMONDS DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION, Ltd. (Fram Corporation). Jan. 20, 1943, No. 1002. (Class 46] A filter, particularly for oil, comprises a casing 3 with a removable cover 19 and a removable cartridge 25 having perforated end covers 27, 28 and one or more lateral openings 44 leading to a chamber 40 between masses of wadding or other filtering material 33, 34, a tube 39 leading from the imperforate top wall 36 of the chamber through the perforated bottom wall 41 and the wadding 34 to the end cover 28 so that the liquid flows from an inlet 12 in series through the wadding 33, 34 to an outlet 13 or vice versa. The cartridge 25 may be formed with annular ribs 25a. The spring 31 may be separate from or attached to the cover 19 or mounted on the cartridge to serve as a handle. The casing may be formed of two flanged sections 6, 14 connected by bolts 17, the lower section 6 being interchangeable with the casing of the filter described in U.S.A. Specification 2,081,968.
