Abstract
711,131. Filtering liquids. FRAM CORPORATION. Nov. 24, 1952, No. 29654/52. Class 46 A filter for a volatile liquid, e g. petrol, comprises a bowl 17 detachably secured to a head 10 having inlet and discharge openings 11, 16 and housing a filter cup 31 secured to the base of a depending wall 27 which has an aperture 35 above the cup 31 so as to allow petrol vapour to byepass the latter and gain access to the outlet 16 through a tube 32 depending from the head 10 into the cup 31. During normal operation the feed is controlled by a pump (not shown) so as to be maintained at a level 37 in the bowl 17, which is of glass, and the filtered petrol passes up the tube 32 to conduits 14, 15 and the outlet 16 all of which are normally completely filled. In a modification liquid is prevented from bye-passing the cup 31 by a float which on a rise in the level 37 blocks the aperture 35.
