Abstract

868,139. Filters. KOSKOWSKI, R. Nov. 26, 1957 [Nov. 26, 1956], No. 36870/57. Class 46. Liquid entering at C, Fig. 1, flows downwards through a perforate part b, between partitions q forming filter compartments f, through filter beds a in the compartments, and through a drainage bottom t, filtered water being discharged at D. Cleaning by reverse flow of the sand in one or more compartments is effected sequentially by a pump P above a suction device S which slides on the perforate part b, and preferably is provided with an imperforate screen O, the suction apparatus being suspended by a pipe r from a car k movable on rails m. The pipe r discharges into a gutter (not shown). The pump P and car k are driven electrically from a cable L. In Fig. 3 unfiltered water is drawn by a pump P on the car k through a pipe W and discharged into an upwardly-widening mixing- chamber n of the suction device S, thus creating upward flow in the affected compartments. This water passes up through a chamber g to a gutter h, while any bed particles drawn up with it return to the compartments through a slot i. In Fig. 5 the normal filtration flow is upwards into an inner chamber E, while rinse water is drawn downwards in certain compartments and up through a pipe W by a pump P for discharge at h<SP>1</SP>.
